A Serious Eater's Guide to Buenos Aires and Beyond

Oui Oui, Brunch Brunch, Yes Yes

The pioneer in the Buenos Aires brunch movement, Oui Oui has been around since the beginning, brunchificando the hell out of Palermo Hollywood.  A French-inspired cozy café,  Oui Oui has two locations on Nicaragua street in PoHo: the original in the middle of the street and the almacén version on the corner of Dorrego y Nicaragua.

Pricey? Kinda. Overly trendy at times? You bet. Hard to find a table? On weekends, forget about it.  But despite all the cons, Oui Oui remains to be a solid brunch and lunch options for locals and tourists alike.

Perfect for a weekday lunch, you can’t go wrong with one of their specials.  The “Tony” is my favorite, eggs Benedict that comes with potatoes, greens and coffee or tea.  If you are coming from the US, these are not realdeal eggs benedict, but still a solid take on the original.  But, if you are used to Buenos Aires-style breakfasts, this is one of the best places (and only) for eggs Benedict in the city. And it’s pretty damn good.

The ‘Gallo’ is also a healthy breakfast winner that comes with natural yogurt, fresh fruit, homemade granola, and coffee or tea.

Hamburgers, tartas, soup of the day and French toast (with honey) are also recommended, as is their infamous refreshing mint lemonade, served in a Penguin pitcher, that proves to cure any hangover.

Probably one of the things that Oui Oui mostly excels at is their baked deliciousness – medialunas, croissants, muffins, brioche and bread — their croissants will always win my heart as a top winning buttery, flaky pastry.  INSIDER’S TIP: every night an hour before closing, from 8pm – 9pm, all the baked goods are half price!

Update: Oui Oui used to be a more expensive spot (this article was written in 2009), but since then the prices are still competitive (if not less) with other cafés in the neighborhood.

[…] Oui Oui (Nicaragua 6068)Yes yes, Oui Oui is quite the scene on the weekend, getting extremely busy with both tourists and overly trendy Palermonites. Why would someone wait over 30 minutes for a table?  Because it’s trendy, has solid food, and a pleasant ambience overlooking the picturesque tree-lined street of Nicaragua.  If Oui Oui is too busy, give Almacén Oui Oui  a shot (I actually prefer this one to the original), or walk a few blocks to the outdoor seating areas at Gringa (Costa Rica y Dorrego), or Café Montenegro (Soler y Arévalo), both within a few block radius.
