Big MAMMA

Posted on February 20, 2010 2 Comments

Oh, how I crave a corned beef sandwich from a real, authentic deli… I would do anything for a mile high stacked Reuben, all seasoned bagels with cream cheese, a complete lox plate, big kosher dill crunchy pickles, smiley face or black and white cookie yummm. My jew gene has definitely been in full force, and although BA does have a lot of Jews, they are lacking on the deli scene.

I went to Big Mamma in Belgrano with low expectations. Good thing. I ordered a “reuben” which had more of a pastrami/roast beef type meat, no sauce, some carrots, a little cheese, and a limpy pickle (AR$26 pesos). I probably wouldn’t order it again, but I will give MAMMA another chance and try the bagel and lox with the understanding that I will probably be underwhelmed. If I have low expectations then it can only get better, right?

The rye bread was pretty good!I have heard about Bagelazo but haven't tried it yet…I made some bagels a few months ago that turned out just okay, I think I'll have to make them again soon with a different recipe.

"My jew gene has definitely been in full force…"Hah! That cracked me up. I have to say, that is a sad looking excuse for corned beef; however, that rye bread looks heavenly. I'd kill for some good rye bread and some bagels. There's a new service in BsAs that I read about called El Bagelazo. You should check it out – I hear they're quite good.
