Florencio Bistró & Patisserie

Posted on March 20, 2010 12 Comments

On a small cobblestone street behind the British Embassy in Recoleta you can find the cutest little café bistro you ever did see.

Florencio (Francisco de Vittoria 2363) fits only about 10-15 people with 5 small tables inside and one small table outside on the sidewalk. The menu includes items like sandwiches, tartas, baked goods, pastries – conveniently displayed on a big chalk board, plus specials that change daily.

I was in the mood for something sweet, I wish I was hungrier to order more. I went with a Cheesecake con frutas rojas (Cheesecake with berries) that was really good, and not overly sweet, it was inhaled in less than 2 minutes.

Florencio is plant-friendly as well.

Popped over here after seeing your recommendation for good coffee in Recoleta.
By the way, Coffee Time, in Sal Telmo is delicious.
Love the cobble stoned road Florencio is located on.
Many of the customers also spoke English, not sure if this was due to the proximity of the British Embassy.
Their deserts looked amazing and I tasted a chocolate dulce de leche which was fantastic.
I wish I could’ve taken the coffee to go, but they don’t do ‘to go’ here.
Which worked out in the end because I stayed an enjoyed the atmosphere.

I heard that they opened up a second location in Palermo, I’ll have to check it out soon! Is it just as good as the one in Recoleta??

I don’t know how I came across your blog, but this post really had me. So today I went to Florecio. It was charming.
I love the location, the surroundings of the British Embassy and the parks there are one of my favourite parts of the city.
Wanted to try the nutella coffee though it wasn’t available
Me and my boyfriend has the chocolate cake. It was so HUGEEE!!!! Actually, the waiter told us we probably wouldn’t finish it. So sweet and “empalagoso”. Anyway, I loved it.
    Thanks for the tip

Talking about food, you should totally try out SUNAE which is a closed door restaurant. It’s asian food. U’ll love it. Menu changes every fortnight

Hi Priscila… I’m glad you checked out Florencio, it is a wonderful place and in probably one of my favorite areas in the city too! Did you end up finishing the chocolate cake?? It may be empalagoso, pero vale la pena!

Thanks for the tip on Cocina Sunae, I actually tried it a few months ago and really enjoyed it! You’ve reminded that it’s time to go back..

        The cake was great!
I went with my bf. We realized when they brought it that it was huge.
The thing is that he took a few bites and had enough! Not that he wasn’t hungry, but he doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth. He smelled the sandwiches and wanted to try them out!
I, on the other hand, LOVE cakes and stuff like that so end up eating like half the cake.
He later told me I ate a lot! I may be a girl, but I like to eat. Sweet things are my soft spot.
BTW, no we didn’t finish it

If you like going for a coffee maybe I can recommed a few places!

        I’ll be watching your blog!!

[…] Florencio’s tiny café situated on a charming cobblestone street near the British Embassy was always a top choice to send visitors in the Recoleta area.  Even though it is one of my favorite merienda spots in the city, with only a few tables, it proved to be a crapshoot whether or not there would be an empty table available.  Luckily, Florencio opened a second (and larger) location in Palermo (Segui 4611), serving the same menu of salads, sandwiches, tartas and delicate pastries.Everything about the Palermo location is pretty similar to the original, except it is double in size with about 12 tables instead of 6.  The café is filled with natural light and tastefully decorated with black and white photographs on the walls.  A big fan of reusing jars and glasses myself, bright green plants and flowers planted in old mason jars and bottles give the interior an added homey touch.
