What’s with foreigners and their salad dressing, peanut butter, maple syrup, American candy? While living in another city, one should embrace the culture and eat the local cuisine…. Hellz no! As sad and pathetic as it seems, I dream about shopping in an American supermarket… oh, the inappropriate things I would do for just one hour in a Trader Joes. While I can fill my suitcases (and friends who come visit) with enough condiments to last months, I came to the realization that I need to practice more sustainable eating and adapt to my new surroundings. So, I have started to make some of my favorites, throwing in an Argentine twist the mostly local products… starting with good old ranch dressing.
Homemade Ranch Dressing (Adapted from The Pioneer Woman)
– 1 clove Garlic
– ¼ cups Italian Parsley
– 2 tablespoons fresh Chives
– 1 cup Mayonnaise
– ½ cup Queso Crema
– Buttermilk (recipe here… it’s just milk and vinegar)
– White Vinegar
– Salsa Inglesa (aka Worcestershire Sauce)
– Fresh Dill

Mince garlic and sprinkle 2 pinches of salt into it – mash away and make a paste. Next, chop the herbs finely – parsley and chives – and add to the garlic paste.
Combine all the other ingredients in a bowl, tasting and adjusting seasonings as necessary. Best to chill for a few hours to get a better consistency, and then add buttermilk to thin if u like it like dat.
ORRRR spend AR$38.79 (almost 10 dollas) on Newman’s Own Ranch Dressing at Jumbo.

Not for sale, but the Casabar in Recoleta serves Hidden Valley Ranch dressing when you order the hot wings. I was tempted to grab a bottle from the waitress station. Where do they get it? Sometimes I just want it for my salads at home ( well room in someone elses home ). How can a Hidden Valley be so popular?

Hey Paul… let’s go, I’ll create a diversion, and you go in for the kill grabbing it from the waitress station – then we can throw a Hidden Valley Ranch party for all.

I found a recipe for ranch dressing on the food blog “Homesick Texan” that is very similar to this one. I’m loving it! I’ll try this version to see how they compare.

Thanks Katie! I’ll have to try that one out…
