THE Go-To Barrio Favorite: Marfa Delivery

Posted on July 9, 2010 7 Comments

There comes a time in an unhealthily food obsessed freak’s life when she finds THE place where she could go everyday, never knew of its existence, and it’s steps away from her lazy-ass doorstep. After almost a year, I finally discovered Marfa Delivery.  I must have passed by thousands of times, with no idea what lunch-time magic occurs on a week-daily basis. At first glance it looks like a house, a quicker look you may think it is an out-of-business store, with the “cerrado” sign permanently glued to the door. Marfa, located right next to the Ministro Carranza subte stop in Palermo (Santa Fe 5259), mainly focuses on delivering lunch to the zone, but there are about 5 tables in the tiny shop.  Don’t let the small size fool you, their delivery is the hotness – taking orders left and right like it’s nobody’s business.

It’s difficult to recommend one thing, because I have never had bad meal. Which is especially impressive because generally I have to wait 5 hours to eat it. Yes… this place is only open weekdays, from 11:00am – 3:30pm, which makes me quite a proactive camper. Since I’m working hard for the peso during that time each day, I have Marfa delivered to my apartment, and after work I have a lovely treat waiting for me. Loser? Yes. Happy Stomach? Mmmmmmmm.

Quinoa Salad: mixed greens, quinoa, garbanzo beans, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh corn, carrots, and roasted pumpkin (AR$21)

The reason I am so enthusiastic about Marfa is because it is one of the only places in the city that has more modern lunch items – including a large selection of wraps, 10 different salad varieties, sandwiches on freshly made french bread, tartas del día, and a bunch of different veggie burgers – without any pretension, and damn tasty food.  Since I am a newbie, I can only attest to their winter menu.. the best part being the soups! Oh, I have dirty fantasies about these velvety soups. Each day they have a different soup flavor ranging from roasted butternut squash, carrot and walnut, roasted leek, pumpkin and ginger, just to name a few.  And I must say, they are ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUSITY.  You can order a full portion (AR$16), medium (AR$9) or you can opt for the soup + salad/sandwich/wrap combo and add a small soup (extra AR$6.50).

Wrap & Soup Combo – Roasted Butternut Squash Soup (AR$6.50), BBQ Chicken Wrap (AR$21): shredded chicken, lettuce, cabbage, tomato, onion, shoestring potato chips, corn & BBQ sauce. So good.

BA restaurants have kinda gone wrap-crazy, but Marfa’s version is much better than other counter parts like Pura Vida, Natural Deli, and Open Kitchen because they actually taste reeeally good, packed with fresh ingredients and bright tasty flavors – no extra sauces necesarry.  I also have to give honorable mention to the Veggie Burgers.  I have tried the Tofu y Avena (tofu, oats, yamani rice, sesame seeds, served with honey mustard and a red & green pesto all on a fresh whole wheat bun, AR$19) and the lentejas y calabaza. I even have an anti-tofu, pro-burger eater backing me up for goodness approval.

Quesadilla mediterránea (AR$22): mozzarella, spinach, onion, carrot, pumpkin, eggplant, squash, corn and greens – this photo courtesy of the Marfa facebook page.

So right about Marfa. I had been on a sushi delivery bender (memo to Argentina: salmon and cream cheese should be one type of roll, not 20 just slightly varied) when I found this post and tried Marfa out. O.M.G. Spinach and…something healthy…burger? So good!

[…] Marfa Delivery Only, Palermo Hollywood It is hard to order the wrong thing at Marfa.  This Palermo lunch and dinner delivery service has bomb ass food. No joke. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu and rarely is there something I don’t like.  While there are options for chicken, fish, and beef eaters, those who restrain from an animal diet have plenty of options to choose from as well.  The veggie burger can’t be missed and out of the five different flavors on the menu, the Broccoli and Red Pepper is the winner for me (AR$26). Made with yamaní rice, oats and sesame topped with mozzarella, lettuce, tomato and a red and green pesto, this is simply a patty of delicity. Quesadillas (mediterránea shown above), wraps, sandwiches, soups and salads are off da chain tambien. Average price per person: AR$25-35. Photo credz: Marfa. […]
