Doppio Zero: Italian Food Done Right

With ganas to visit Doppio Zero (Soldado de la Independencia 1238) for quite some time, my intense craving for pasta finally drove me to this small Italian restaurant in Las Cañitas.  Once in Belgrano on Zabala, Doppio Zero recently moved to a bigger location, yet on a Thursday night at 10pm, the place was basically empty.  Despite the lack of clientele, both the food and service were spot on.  The menu has a variety of cold and hot antipasti items, options such as salads, beef carpaccio, shrimp and truffled egg.  For main courses, there are two types of pastas: homemade in house and De Cecco imported pasta from Italy.  For those pasta carb haters, there is also a risotto del dia, fish and meat.  They also offer a 7 course tasting menu for AR$95… I think I will have to try that next time.

Invitación de la casa: biteful of something I don’t remember

Appetizer 1 Caprese Salad (AR$29): Not very happy with the cherry tomato to mozzarella ratio, but still quite good with a lovely aioli

Appetizer 2 Mix de Antipasti (AR$40): Yum yum yum

Penne rigate con pesto de rúcula, tomate seco, ricota y parmigiano (AR$44): Absolutely delightful

Fusilli (FUSILLI JERRY) lunghi bucati con manteca de hongos de pino, cebolla de verdeo y anchoas (AR$44): I am not crazy about anchovies, and this def had that fishy taste.  My anchovy-breath dinner companion did in fact love it.

Ravioles de rosbif estofado con hierbas durante 12 horas, en jugo de carne, romero y pimentón ahumado (AR$44)

Postre 1: Spirale de manteca de café y compota de frutillas al Malbec con canela: Not my choice in postre – a bit too creamy buttery sweet jelly for my liking. I still ate it.

Tiramisú (AR$25): Great tiramisú. MMMMmmmm mmm

    Italians love discovering new foods and new way of preparing familiar dishes. Every year there’s more and more interest in the traditional cuisine of the various regions and in biological, environment friendly foods. Italian food for Italians is a reason of pride. You can recognize Italians abroad for their longing of typical dishes, pasta over every other. And you can see how dishearten they are when they try pasta outside Italy. Some upper class foreign restaurants have managed to master almost all the typical Italian dishes, but pasta still eludes them.

    Might I simply say nice to read a relief to find someone who definitely realizes just what they are sharing on the web. You actually have learned to take a problem to light and allow it to essential. More people require to study this and comprehend it all aspect of the story.     If anyone goes, you have to get the orichiette with hongo/mushroom sauce. It´s amazing.

    The pistacchio ice cream dessert is also incredible, but I´m going to like anything involving pistacchio ice cream.

      Good food, extensive wine list, excellent service – they even noticed my constant photo taking and offered to email me a pdf of the menu.
