A Serious Eater's Guide to Buenos Aires and Beyond

Top It Frozen Yogurt: Dale muchas vueltas

TOP IT IS NOW CLOOOOSED

p1020636

The time has come, real frozen yogurt has hit Buenos Aires just in time for the summer. Not to give myself too much credit, but a few months ago I predicted that the Fro-Yo craze was due to hit Buenos Aires by 2011. Thanks to Top It (Gorriti 4721, Palermo Soho) my prognostication success streak continues, and porteños and homesick foreigners alike can now enjoy this guilt-free, refreshing treat.

Unlike the other false-advertising frozen yogurt shops, Top It is made from low fat yogurt, with zero grams of fat, 100 calories per serving, and filled with all of that healthy pre and probiotics goodness.  It’s a great substitute to satisfy the helado craving since it actually tastes good (*cough* not like imitation soury yogurt flavored ice cream nastiness at Freddo) and it won’t fatten me up like my usual weekly trifecta dulce de leche brownie-chocolate suizo-chocolate marroc pedido.

Top It opened in October 2011 by yogurt makers extraordinaire, Guillermo Marx and Ilana Messing, who have worked day and night to bring high quality yogur helado to Buenos Aires. They knew the importance of not only creating a delicious product, but also offering a myriad of fresh topping options – over 20 – including fresh and dried fruits, candies, cookies, cereals and syrups, like a mighty tasty café syrup. The yogurt comes in two sizes, 3 vueltas (AR$13) and 4 vueltas (AR$15) with two toppings each (additional topping an extra AR$2). I topped my 3 vueltas with strawberries, kiwi and blueberries. And another maracuyá flavor with watermelon, blueberries and kiwi.

Nobody likes an annoying know-at-all, but luckily I don’t really like myself, and my food predictions have never proven to fail. Mark my words, Top It fro-yo will go viral in the yogurt-mania community and become a hit of Summer 2011.

I always go to the yo place called “Pink Frost”, just in front of El Solar de la abadía, in cañitas…that’s the best one for me….love it (hope it is really low fat, hehe)

There is a new fro yo place that opened a few months ago on Parana, between Santa Fe and MT Alvear. It’s not as good as Yogurtland, but it’s close and the owners blatantly stole the concept – you get to scoop the toppings on yourself and pay according to weight. It’s not bad!

My friend/co-worker Mariana’s brother is Guillermo Marx, the co-owner. Small world!

I went and got frambuesa yogurt with mango and granola topping. I was surprised how good it was. Plus the place is really eye-catching as you walk by. I ate my yogurt outside on some beach chairs they provide and 5 or 6 people stopped as they walked by to see what they were selling. Vitally important question – Do they do delivery?
