A Serious Eater's Guide to Buenos Aires and Beyond

Happy Thanksgiving, American Style

Posted on November 30, 2010 4 Comments

It’s no coincidence that I chose to visit my family in the US over Thanksgiving, the only major holiday where eating takes center stage, giving thanks for being a bunch of total greedy foodface stuffing fatties. After 4 years of Argentine-styled Thanksgivings, it was time to celebrate authentic American food traditions, feasting until you can feast no more, watching holiday themed movie comedies on TBS, feasting some more, watching more TV, and then annihilating the leftovers. Nothing like a homemade feast and gaining 5 pounds in one weekend to really make my USA trip worthwhile!

If you are unfamiliar with Thanksgiving, here’s a little peak (with recipes) into what we had on our Thanksgiving table:

Sides:

– Green Bean Casserole
– Cranberries
– Stuffing (4 types): Challah Stuffing, regular original, corn bread and Apple-Chorizo stuffing)
– Roasted and grilled vegetables
– Mashed Potatoes
– Sweet Potatoes
– Macaroni and cheese
– Plate with turkey, gravy and all the sides
– Biscuits

Desserts:

– Apple pie with vanilla bean ice cream
– Apple crumble
– Berry Cheesecake
– Blumpkin pumpkin pie

[…] degree festive Thanksgiving.  Personally, I’ll be eating asado, but for those who feel that homesick food nostalgia during this eating season, here’s how to get some Thanks-action on dia de Acción de Gracias, […]
