Pick Up The Fork

A Serious Eater's Guide to Buenos Aires and Beyond

Barrio Chino Stock Up

Posted on March 10, 2011 10 Comments

Barrio Chino is one of my favorite places in Buenos Aires where I still get excited every time I visit.  Pathetic? Maybe. Hard to find imported products kinda get me off. This time around I picked up the following items:
Coconut milk, mango chutney (not that good), Asahi beer, Sriracha, tofu, lemongrass, Kikkoman soy sauce bc all the other cheap brands taste like shit, tamarind paste, sweet chili sauce, peanut satay sauce, black beans, water chesnuts, bamboo shoots, EDAMAME (a BC first, and a real excitement), crab legs, rice vinegar, passion fruit, and of course mani japonés.

Other culinary boners of the day included:

Sesame Noodles at the Asia Oriental food counter *only 8 pesos!

Edamame (AR$15 for the package)

Wasabi Peas & You!

Are these KOALA YUMMIES?

Here’s a happy new reader of your blog! For another expat it will come in handy and surely save me many times from falling into despair. Just like Barrio Chino does! It’s an instant pick-me-up just seeing those things there, not to mention smelling the dill, seeing the duckies, fresh exotic fruits… yum!

WHERE, in what store did you find the edamame? I have been living here for 8 months looking for them, my heart almost stopped just now when I saw the picture

Haha. Hear hear. I feel more excitement going to Chinatown then going shopping for a pair of shoes. Sad.
