Sushi Delivery: Kokoro Sushi

Kokoro sushi has what it takes to be a great go-to sushi delivery spot: super fresh fish, inventive rolls, high quality products, rice properly cooked, tasty sauce accompaniments, expert color-coated packaging, and a full menu that’s not insanely priced. A new school of Japanese-Peruvian sushi fusion to your door, sashimi, niguiri, tiraditos and rolls make Kokoro a winning delivery option._MG_8859

It’s not easy to find an affordable sushi delivery service that doesn’t taste like you are eating assfish crammed with cream cheese ejaculate splooges. While I do have fond memories finding staples and cloth threads in my Sushi Pop California roll, it’s been a long fishysmelling journey for decent sushi delivery. Luckily, Damian Shiizu has sushi making in his blood, with years of experience working with his family in the sushimaking biz, and even more years experience as head of the sushi bar at Osaka.

_MG_8886 Ebi Furai (AR$53) crispy panko shrimp served with a spicy mayo was quite tasty, although a bit soggy once it arrived due to the moisture in the hot container.

_MG_8902 Tiraditos never seem to disappoint, so I went with a tiradito maracuyá (AR$36 half portion, $65 full) thinly strips of fresh salmon, topped with a bit of crunch and smothered with a sweet passion fruit honey sauce. Absolutely delicious, I wanted to eat 5 more portions. No hacked fish in this order, the tiraditos are masterly prepared where the chef’s knife skills shine.

Next up: the sushi combo. 26 pieces of salmon combination (AR$152) that included sashimi, niguiri, New York roll (salmon + avocado), New York roll with cream cheese (I give up) and a Double Salmon roll that contained an excellent salmon tartare, green onion, avocado, topped with thin salmon and served with a Peruvian lime-sesame sauce. Even though most of the assortments are a little cream cheese crazy, the fish is miles (kilometers?) better than the other sushi delivery spots around.

Overall verdict? While for authentic Japanese food and sushi I’d head to one of these restaurants, for a lazy sushi night at home watching terribly awesome reality shows on Hulu (and I have a lot of those nights), I’ll call up Kokoro.

Looks great! Do you know how long Damian was the head sushi chef at Osaka? I ate there back in 2011 and the Osaka Yuku sushi bar around the corner (I think they are both part of the same company?) and I absolutely loved the Japanese/Peruvian fusion.

Took your advice and ordered delivery last night – really good! Since Osaka To Go doesn’t deliver to me, this is a great alternative.

I may have eaten a couple before I took the photo… but still, you’re right, 8 peso per shrimp is expensive. Stick with the tiraditos / sushi combos.
