  1. Three words: You Are The Bomb. Oh wait.. four words. :D

  2. Agustina says:

I looooooove the unnamed greengrocer’s in Paraguay (I live just across the street from it). The one on Carranza and Charcas (just around the corner from it) is really good too. Way too crowded most of the time, though…Thanks for the list, it’s really useful! And oh, I miss those days when I lived in Vicente López when I’d get those yummy medialunas de grasa from La Vicente López for breakfast after a long night out…

    • Alan says:

I always used to go to the one on Carranza and Charcas when I lived in that area, miss it a lot actually. Never even noticed the one of Paraguay, I’m ashamed to say!

  3. Daniel says:

You’re like a national treasure. And ex-pat treasure, if you will.

  4. Kevin Vaughn says:

Out of all the fish markets, which one would you recommend most for sushi in terms of price-quality ? On the medium end for us with thinner wallets.

  5. huaweiadmin says:

Calamari are cheap at Jumbo. Particularly if you like the legs (is that what you call them?).

What an amazing list – I only wish I had this when I arrived to Argentina :) Have you ever checked out the fiambre place on the corner of Arévalo and Santa Fe? I discovered it in my last week or so in BA and it could be because I have an extremely unsophisticated palate (or that BA has completely lowered my food expectations), but I thought they had a really good selection of fiambres, including turkeyyy. Also, lots of good cheeses, including a picada especial, all herbed and olive oiled up to pop in yo mouth. If somehow you haven’t checked it out yet I highly recommend it!

  8. Great list!! Thanks a lot!!
I’ve been trying different organic places for a while, and I still believe the best is El Rincón Orgánico.
Did you like El Galpón’s Feta, I found it… unfeta. Texture and flavour weren’t right for me. But La Choza’s (at Rincón and Gapón) organic milk and yogurt are excelentes!

    • forkyou says:

I agree about the Feta, it wasn’t like normal feta, the texture was a lot like firm tofu and the actual cheese a bit salty…but it tasted pretty good when mixed with other things (I made a grilled chicken greek salad). I’ll have to try La Choza’s products, thanks!

Buenísima Allie! Hoy nos salvó para unas compras de último minuto, tratando de encontrar por el barrio lima y chilis sin tener que ir hasta Barrio Chino un sábado al medio día!

  11. For BA’s most inexpensive and freshest seafood, try Mellino, on Rojas 11 (Caballito, not far from “El Progreso”. Salmon is AR$54, as opposed to $70-85 on Arribeños. They import it themselves from Norway and Chile (one week each, or so they claim). Plus, if you’re on their mailing list, they have really good specials on Saturdays. It’s set on a municipal market, and the rest of the stores I’ve checked out so far share the same qualities. Definitely worth the trip once a week.

  12. Thank you a million times over for this list.My favorite find so far is Mercado del Progreso which I doubt I would have discovered on my own. It reminds me of a way scaled down version of Reading Terminal Market in Philly. The amount of beef there is overwhelming but I love having options so I can always find those hard to get cuts. Also in response to your feta comment, two different stands there have goats milk feta. I tried a local one, from Cordoba I believe, and though it started out a bit too dry, soaking it in some brine did the trick. Thanks again for the advice and I’ll continue to be a avid follower!

This is a great page, I am trying to find a Carniceria on Manuela Pedraza somewhere between Cabildo and the railway line, anybody know of it? In exchange I offer on on the corner of Ruiz Huidobro and Superi, it is called Ayelen, excellent meat at great prices.

  19. oliviaamter says:

What about olive oil? I know you’ve included some places that also sell olive oil, but what about an olive oil shrine a la mendoza biking wine tour? I’m sure you already know about it, but just in case: Quetec. It has laughably low prices and delicious fixins’ to go with. I’m tempted to stop by after work for some free samples…

    All the details here! http://frugalbuenosaires.wordpress.com/2012/10/17/country-olive-oil-in-the-big-city/

    • forkyou says:

Love that place – it’s on my way home from the subte and I definitely have done some damage there.

      • Hyper3 says:

Just visiting BA and looking for an excellent Uruguayan olive oil I tasted at an excellent new restaurant here (L’Osteria)…which of the shops in your big list might have a good chance of stocking such an item?
From what I could gather from the Quetec website they only sell their own products?

  20. Norm says:

Thanks for a marvelous information, this is wonderful.

  21. Amelia says:

I’ve been living in Buenos Aires for a while now, and I can completely vouch for this list. So awesome to have all in one spot.

  22. Thanks for all the great info on your site! I’m visiting BA for the summer and your site has been invaluable. I’m having trouble finding decent yogurt…looking for anything without additives, artificial sweeteners, etc. Do you have any suggestions?

    • forkyou says:

Hmm, that’s a tough one. Try ‘La Choza’ dairy products, they have them at El Galpon organic market. I also like the plain flavor of the yogurt that comes in the little glass jars at the supermarket.

its vast network had been almost entirely de-indexed by Google, causing chaos in the
    internet marketing industries.
