Do people still read food blogs? Are we supposed to do substack newsletters now? Incessantly post on Instagram? Tweet threads? Make restaurant voice-over TikToks? Get into crypto NFTs on the metaverse? (I know the last one is nonsense, but somehow feels accurate.) I don’t think blogs are still a thing, but I’m feeling retro and […]

Pick Up the Fork is a labor of love. I’ve never monetized the content, worked with sponsors, accepted money from restaurants, or set up a paywall. It’s 100% independent and self-funded, and I’ve chosen to go in that direction since PUTF’s birth in 2009. But things change and 2020 has proven to be a tough […]
The Sarkis Experience: What to order at BA’s most popular restaurant
If you ever stood outside the corner of Thames and Jufré waiting over an hour for a table, you have already completed the first stage of the Sarkis Experience. The 250-seat Armenian restaurant on the Villa Crespo-Palermo border is open every day, for lunch and dinner, and almost always packed to capacity. Many will quibble whether or not Sarkis’ serves the best Middle Eastern food in the city, but I’m not going to engage in that debate because as one of the most popular and iconic spots in all of Buenos Aires, Sarkis deserves our respect.
Recipe: Gran Dabbang’s Pakoras de Acelga with Carrot Chutney
I remember the first time I tried the swiss chard pakoras at Gran Dabbang. The year was 2014, the genesis of BA’s new food renaissance. Eat, Drink, and Eat Some More: The Restaurant Rundown of 2017
If you asked me to describe the 2017 BA food scene in a few words my answer would be simple: beer bars, burger bars, craft beers eating burgers, and burger bars drinking craft beers. But looking at it closely, 2017 saw exciting new spots beyond the B&B craze. A few months ago I wrote about the 15 hottest new Buenos […]
The Restaurant Bible: Where to Eat in Montevideo, Uruguay
If Montevideo isn’t on your radar as a Latin American food destination, it totally should be. The laid-back tranquilo city is stepping out of BA’s shadow and undergoing their own mini food boom. While Uruguayans still share an inherent love for pasta and parrilla, many are beginning to open their minds to a new world of flavors. […]
